First Team Debuts

Liam Burt scored his first goal for the Club.

SONS' final home game of the 3017/18 Ladbrokes Championship season was one to forget.

Visitor Falkirk comfortably won the match, smashing five goals into Jamie Ewings net with two consolation goals for Dumbarton.

After a solid and competitive first-half which saw Dumbarton hold more than their own against the Bairns, it was a surprise to all the enormity of the second-period collapse.

Alex Jakubiak's close-range finish had a hint of offside about it, but later TV evidence had Grant Gallagher keeping the Falkirk striker onside and his cheeky backheel strike gave the Bairns the lead.

Sons fought back admirably and Calum Gallagher brought a good save from the Falkirk goalie after finding himself in space. Danny Handling was next to test Hazard, and the big goalie was equal to the striker's hard and low shot.

On 38 mins, Sons did get level. Calum Gallagher's shot from the edge of the penalty box gave Hazard no chance as the ball nestled into the bottom left corner.

1-1 and all to play for.

Sons almost took the lead following a goalmouth scramble and it was Gallagher again but his brave effort cannoned off the post to safety.

Barely had supporters taken time to re-position themselves for the second half when Falkirl restored their lead.

Louis Longridge danced past Sons defenders to slot home, giving Ewings no chance. A poor start to the second period for Dumbarton.

Tommy Robson made it 3-1 on the hour with a superb long-range strike which cracked off the inside of Jamie Ewing's post to bulge the net.

Effectively it was game over for Dumbarton and Falkirk moved in for the kill and soon added to their tally when Sibbald scored before another long-range drive

Sons did pull a goal back when Liam Burt found the bottom corner from inside the box, but the on-loan Rangers man's goal only served to take a little gloss off Falkirk's win.
