Milestones
Dom Thomas scored his first goal for the Club. |
IT started with a 3-2 win at the ground where his playing career began.
It ended with a 3-2 defeat in the arena where he started as a manager.
Stevie Aitken's spell with Dumbarton was closed by the team they recruited him from back in May 2015.
Nearly three and a half years after he started against Morton, his tenure closed at Stranraer on another afternoon of deep frustration.
Grant Anderson and David Brownlie had the home side ahead twice, but those goals were equalised by Ross Forbes and Dom Thomas.
But there was no leveller to PJ Crossan's goal on 66 minutes which proved to be the home side's winner.
And with that, a chapter closed.
The scoring was opened in 11 minutes when Anderson took control of a long ball and ran in to lob the ball over debuting keeper Robbie Mutch.
But the deficit lasted only two minutes. Bobby Barr's cross was flicked on by Calum Gallagher ahead of the keeper and Forbes scrambled the ball away.
Forbes tried again from distance but saw his shot saved.
Then 10 minutes from half time, Brownlie was left unmarked at a corner and converted from six yards.
On the hour mark Sons were level again, Thomas marking his debut with a deflected shot which found the net.
However, six minutes later Crossan's run was not tracked, and he shot home from 15 yards.
Thomas tried again twice, but his efforts were saved, and that was as close as Dumbarton got to a third equaliser.
