Born in Paisley, Andy signed a full-time contract with his home-town team St Mirren when he was 16. After being let go by The Buddies at 19, he moved to Scottish Second Division side Stenhousemuir. In 2 years with the club he made over 40 appearances, however in the summer of 2011 he moved to local rivals East Stirlingshire. Andy was with The Shire for two seasons, during which time he had a brief spell with Washington State side Kitsap Pumas.

Andy returned to Scotland in July 2013, signing for Scottish League One side Stranraer. After an impressive season at Stair Park, which included being named in the 201314 Scottish League One Team of the Year. In May 2014, Andy became then-manager Jim Jefferies third signing of the summer. After 15 appearances for Dunfermline, Andy was sent on loan to Stirling Albion.

A few days after leaving The Pars, Andy re-signed for his former club Stranraer. After just one year with the Blues, Andy became Dumbartons second new signing for 2016/17.

Andy signed for Queen of the South in May 2017 after 41 appearances and three goals for Dumbarton.
