Andy started his career at Rangers but only made one appearance for the Glasgow club. During his time at Ibrox, Andy spent time on loan with Brechin City before joining Partick Thistle in 2004 but was released the following year and signed for Stranraer. After a year at Stair Park, Andy then joined Ross County and spent three years with the Staggies making 99 appearances.

Andy left Dingwall for Dunfermline Athletic in 2009 and won the First division championship in 2010/11. Andy was made redundant when the Pars went into administration in 2013 and briefly re-joined Partick Thistle for the remainder of that season.

Andy signed for Queen of the South in the summer of 2013 and made over 100 appearances for the Doonhamers in four years in Dumfries.

Andy signed for the Sons in June 2017.
