Dougie started his career in the youth side of Falkirk and in July 2004, signed for Alloa Athletic.

After one season at Alloa, he signed for Cowdenbeath in July 2005.In June he Hill signed for Alloa for a second time. A year later he joined Raith Rovers.

At the start of the 201011 season, he suffered a broken ankle in the Reserve League Cup Final against Dunfermline Athletic. On his return from injury, in order to regain full fitness, he went on loan to Brechin City.

On his return to Raith Rovers, he broke back into the first team. On April 6 2014, he was named man of the match in a 10 win against Rangers in the Scottish Challenge Cup Final.

In June 2015, after six years with the Kirkcaldy side, Hill was released and signed for a third spell with Alloa.

After a season at Recreation Park, he returned to Brechin City in June 2016. After achieving promotion to the Scottish Championship, he was one of a number of players who were released by Brechin.
